Contact and Catenary wire railway

Railway for instance is powered by an overhead wire system the contact and catenary wires. This overhead wire system comprises of contact or catenary wires. Electrification is mainly through contact wires and catenary wires in Railways and also in running trolley, buses, metros, trams. Catenary wires expand and contract with the temperature of the climatic condition. The tension increases and decreases with this temperature and conventionally products are available to meet this gap. The overhead contact system uses overhead wires the contact wires to run the electrification through. Catenary and contact wires are also called traction wires. Contact wire is the actual carrier of electricity of 25 KvAC and it carries too load. The locomotive engine in touch with the lower wire gets continuous electricity flow to run the engine and progress with the journey. The Z shape pantograph is the most responsive design and beneficial to maintain high speeds in Railways. Mostly copper and copper alloys are used to manufacture contact wire used in Railways. Copper is mostly alloyed with cadmium to reduce corrosion. Traction catenary which uses pure copper conductor. Contact wires are suspended through cables to ensure the uniformity in height and position. Overhead wires consistently get affected due to the adverse effect of the wind, temperature and other climatic effect. It’s an expensive process to build the overhead electrification installation. The overhead system requires lines, insulators, power grid system and other support structure. To restrict visual pollution, it’s a conventional step to replace it with an underground electrification system.
